Proctoring Fees

Proctored exams are required in many of the courses. There is a fee for each proctored exam that is not included in your package price. You will pay no more than $22 per proctored exam for a two-hour exam. All foundation courses will have two exams, and program courses will have up to three exams.

MBA – Health Care Administration Online Admission Requirements

To meet the admission requirements for this online MBA program, applicants must:

  • Complete the online application
  • Submit the non-refundable $25 for domestic applicants and $30 for international applicants
  • Have a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Official transcripts from every college or university attended are required.
    • Students may send unofficial transcripts for initial review through the application portal, but official transcripts are required before admission. Official transcripts should be sent directly by the university or college to the Graduate School via mail, secure electronic transfer, or in a sealed envelope.
  • Students who do not maintain a 3.0 GPA are subject to academic review and/or academic probation.

Unconditional Admittance

  • Applicants with a 3.0 (or higher) cumulative GPA or 3.0 (or higher) GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework must provide an official transcript. The GMAT is waived for applicants with a 3.0 GPA.
  • Applicants with a 2.75–2.99 cumulative GPA with 3+ years of relevant work experience must provide:
    • A resume
    • The GMAT is waived for applicants with a 2.75 – 2.99 cumulative GPA and 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Applicants with a 2.75–2.99 cumulative GPA with less than 3 years of relevant work experience must provide:
    • An official transcript
    • GMAT score of 450 or higher

Conditional Admittance

Conditional admission may be granted to students with lower than a 2.75 cumulative undergraduate GPA. Students admitted conditionally must maintain a 3.0 GPA during their first twelve credit hours with no more than one grade of C in order to petition for unconditional admission. A student who is not fully admitted to the program will not be allowed to continue in the program beyond twelve credit hours.

  • Applicants with a 2.5–2.74 cumulative GPA with 5+ years of relevant work experience must provide:
    • Official transcripts
    • A resume
    • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Applicants with a 2.5–2.74 cumulative GPA with less than 5 years of relevant work experience must provide:
    • Official transcripts
    • GMAT score of 450 or higher
    • A resume
    • 3 letters of recommendation
    • A personal statement of 750 words is encouraged, but not required

GMAT Waiver

The GMAT will be waived for students who meet one of the following criteria

  • 3.0 (or higher) cumulative GPA or 3.0 (or higher) GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
  • 2.75–2.99 cumulative GPA with 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • 2.5–2.74 cumulative GPA with 5+ years of relevant work experience (these applicants may be granted Conditional Admittance)

For applicants with a terminal graduate degree and/or those with extensive professional experience, the GMAT may be waived at the discretion of the Graduate Coordinator.

Transfer Students

Transfer students must have each collegiate institution attended mail an official transcript directly from the institution to the UL Lafayette Graduate School. Hand-carried copies/transcripts are not considered official.

International Students

An official TOEFL/IELTS exam score is also required for all international applicants.

Courses are delivered via online distance learning; this delivery method may not be the right choice for you. According to U.S. immigration regulations, F-1 students cannot pursue online degrees; however, international students in other visa categories (e.g., H-4, L2) are exempt from this restriction.

International applicants who currently reside outside the United States and plan to remain in their home country should select the visa type 'No VISA Required – Online' when completing the application. This designation indicates that you will not be entering the United States and no financial guarantee documents will be required.

Registration Requirements

Prior to registering for your first course, the Immunization Waiver form must be completed and sent to Student Health Services. Follow the steps below to complete the form.

  • You must fill out the highlighted fields in both the Immunization Exemption Request (Section B) and the TB Questionnaire (Section C: Part 1)
  • If requesting a waiver (Section B), you must indicate “All vaccinations” in response to “Vaccination(s) for which I am requesting exemption.” We advise you to select the Personal Exemption box.
  • If you answer "Yes" to any question in Section C: Part 1 of the TB Screening, please note that Section C: Part II must be completed
  • After completing all necessary sections of the form as instructed, you should email the form to Student Health Services at immunization@louisiana.edu
  • If you do not fill out all highlighted sections and check all necessary boxes in the Immunization Exemption Request and TB Questionnaire, your proof of immunization record will be denied, and the hold will not be lifted. Student Health Services does not typically notify students whether the form is denied or accepted. You should check Self-Service Banner to see if your immunization hold has been lifted.
  • If you have completed all steps to submit the immunization form and are experiencing difficulty having the hold lifted, please email immunization@louisiana.edu for further assistance

Courses

The MBA in Health Care Administration program online consists of 39 credit hours and 13 courses. Nine of the courses are core courses, and four courses are concentration specific. We've modified our core course requirements to include nine credit hours of health care-specific coursework (in addition to the 12 concentration credit hours), providing a total of 21 credit hours of health care education.

Two internships, three credit hours each, are required—for a total of six credit hours. Additional business foundation courses may be required for some students. Prior to every term, please check the course schedule for any updates.

This MBA program requires 13 courses (39 credit hours). These degree requirements may increase by up to four additional credit hours (four courses, one credit hour each) of foundation courses depending upon the undergraduate business courses previously completed. Foundation courses are designed to acquaint the non-business undergraduate major with the underlying principles, terminology and fundamentals of the various business disciplines. Upon admission, your transcripts will be evaluated; you will be informed at advising which foundation courses you are required to take. The foundations courses are:

  • MBA 511 - Foundations of Economics
  • MBA 512 - Foundations of Finance
  • MBA 513 - Foundations of Quantitative Methods

ECON 528: Managerial Economics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Application of microeconomic tools to business decision making; topics include theoretical and empirical demand and cost functions, pricing under various market conditions and regulatory constraints, short run and long run planning, and domestic and international conditions influencing the firm's profitability and growth.

MGMT 590: Policy Formulation, Strategy, and Administration

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Emphasis is on integrated application of MBA core courses concepts. Problem analysis and decision making at an integrative level are stressed.

ACCT 526: Analytical Methods for Planning and Control

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Elements necessary in an organization for effective administrative control are covered. Emphasis is on the "use" of rather than the "supplying" of accounting data.

FNAN 522: Advanced Financial Management and Policy

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Application of analytical techniques to the firm's investment, financing, and dividend decisions in keeping with the objective of maximizing shareholder wealth.

MKTG 524: Marketing Management

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Provides guidelines for developing marketing plans and programs while emphasizing the application of marketing concepts, tools, and decision making processes.

IBUS 540: International Business

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Course provides a framework for understanding broad issues and analyzing specific topics which affect international business activities in an increasingly interdependent world. The course promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to integrating various facets of international business operations.

HCA 503: Health Care Information Systems

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Information management, systems, and technology related to strategic positioning and day-to-day administrative, financial, and clinical operations of health care organizations.

HCA 540: Health Care Delivery Systems

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

A general overview of the U.S. health care system. Basic components will include characteristics, history and evolution of U.S. health care services, financing of health care services, and impact of technology on delivery of health care.

HCA 550: Quality Management in Health Care

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Emphasis on continuous quality improvement from a system perspective. Discussion of organizational transformation to a quality culture, quality care outcomes, innovation, and internal/external consumer relationships.

BLAW 531: Health Care Law

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Contemporary jurisprudence governing the American health care delivery system. Examination of traditional legal and medical relationships in the context of economic and ethical rules of conduct.

ECON 530: Health Care Economics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Public policy/regulations and principles of finance and financial decision making applied to health services. Public and private mechanisms for financing the treatment of illness and needs of special population groups.

HCA 595: Internship

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

2 courses – Two internships served within an approved Health Care Organization are required. One of the internships will be special-project based while the other is designed to help students understand institution administration from executive roles through administration of services. Students with significant Health Care Administration experience may petition to have one internship waived by submitting written documentation of such experience.
