What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?:

Most of what students learn in this capstone class revolves around helping organizations to meet their goals. Because it is the capstone course, we study a wide variety of independent variables that help organizations to do so. Students are generally expected to apply content to an industry and/or firm that they are interested in further analyzing.

What advice would you give to those considering the online MBA program?

Read Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown and Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport before you begin the program. McKeown teaches us put our energy towards fewer and more important things in life while Newport teaches us how to be more productive by batching work. Both of these are helpful for time management and mastering the MBA curriculum.

Why did you start teaching?

When I was seventeen I had the opportunity to begin coaching tennis. I enjoyed it immensely and continued to do so as time permitted throughout my twenties. Those early experiences in helping others to learn inspired me to pursue an undergraduate degree in secondary education and teaching has remained an important part of my job as a professor to this day.
